VITI RACING WINS THE KZ2 MASTER CLASS AT THE OPENING ROUND OF THE ITALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP WITH LOMBARDO

The opening round of the ACI Italian Karting Championship in Lonato provided Viti Racing with its first cause for celebration, thanks to the competitiveness of its engines, the victory of reigning champion Angelo Lombardo in the KZ2 Master, and the excellent performances of all the other Viti drivers in this first round of the Italian Championship.

Angelo Lombardo’s weekend with Maranello Kart was once again of a high standard, not only in the Master class but also in contention for the overall KZ2 standings, in a decidedly crowded category with 64 drivers on the grid. After securing pole position in the Master class, Lombardo finished seventh in the heats, before going on to take fifth place in Pre-Final A and sixth place in the Final with an excellent lap time. He now leads the Master championship and is seventh overall.

Among the fastest drivers using Viti Racing engines, Daniel Vasile also stood out, racing for the Federico Racing team in a Maranello. Vasile was unlucky in the final, but he was among the fastest overall, securing a win in the first heat – though he received a penalty for a jump start – and a second win in the final heat and in Pre-Final B, where he also set the fastest lap. However, in the Final, Vasile had an accident at the start. He currently sits fifth in the championship.

Giuseppe Palomba, after two strong finishes in the heats, was forced to retire in his final heat; however, in Pre-Final B, the two-time Italian champion with Maranello Kart finished third. Palomba went on to put in an excellent performance in the Final as well, crossing the line in fifth place, before slipping to ninth in the final standings due to a five-second penalty for a front spoiler that had come loose. Palomba is sixth in the championship.

Among the fastest drivers overall was Michael Barbaro Paparo, with Team Monster K Factory, who finished eighth in the Final after a superb comeback of 15 places following a retirement in Pre-Final B.

There were also strong performances from the other Maranello Kart driver, Andrea Pirovano, who finished 11th in the Final after climbing 10 places. Andrea Ceresoli, with Tec Tav Racing Kart in a New Drago, was forced to retire, whilst his team-mate, Lorenzo Nespoli, failed to make it into the Final, as did Kevin Cancelli with Red Fury on Sodi.
